Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor demanded accountability from the government over repeated NEET exam paper leaks, calling the Centre's response "too little, too late." Speaking to India Today, Tharoor justified the opposition's demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation before parliamentary debates, stating that without government accountability, there is "no basis for a meaningful discussion." He highlighted that over 100 paper leaks have occurred across the examination system, leaving students feeling betrayed.
Tharoor contrasted the NDA government's indifference with the former UPA government, noting that seven UPA ministers stepped down to accept moral responsibility despite not being found culpable. Addressing the Prime Minister's announcement of fast-track courts and strict action against the examination mafia, Tharoor questioned why such steps were not initiated after the 2024 NEET exam failures. He emphasized that democracy requires daily accountability to public sentiment, urging the government to acknowledge student protests at Jantar Mantar and fix the examination system.
