A Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly jumped into a canal in Punjab's Ferozepur district after accusing several people of blackmailing and mentally harassing him following his wife's decision to contest local elections. Police have registered a case against seven persons and launched a search operation to trace him. A day before the incident, ASI Gurdayal Singh recorded a video and shared it on social media, naming seven individuals whom he accused of subjecting him to continuous harassment, defamation and blackmail.
Read Full Story In the video, Singh alleged that his photographs had been misused to create objectionable videos, which were then circulated to tarnish his reputation. He further claimed that he was being threatened and pressured to pay lakhs of rupees, and that the sustained mental harassment had pushed him to take the extreme step. According to police, Gurdayal Singh allegedly jumped into the Ferozepur Feeder Canal on Thursday morning.
He remains missing, and teams of police personnel and divers are carrying out search operations in the canal. CASE REGISTERED AGAINST SEVEN Ferozepur Superintendent of Police (Detective) Manjeet Singh said a case has been registered against seven people based on the statement of Gurdayal Singh's wife. "The case has been registered on the basis of the victim's wife's statement. We are investigating all aspects of the matter thoroughly," the officer said.
Police said the allegations levelled by the ASI in the video, including claims of blackmail, extortion and circulation of objectionable content, are being examined as part of the investigation. Further investigation is underway, while search efforts to locate the missing ASI continue. Ends
