The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has directed authorities to inspect the safety measures of the ropeway at Malampuzha Garden following a complaint about inadequate facilities in its glass-covered cabins. Commission chairperson K.V. Manoj Kumar issued the direction while presiding over a sitting at the Collectorate conference hall here on Thursday. The complaint said poor ventilation and rising temperatures inside the cabins during hot weather could affect children’s health.
Officials informed the commission that renovation work at the garden was under way and the ropeway would be upgraded. Safety arrangements were being monitored, the chairperson said. The commission directed authorities to ensure safety measures during swimming training and said sessions in ponds and other water bodies should not be conducted without proper safeguards, particularly during the monsoon.
Officials were also asked to complete the investigation into the alleged killing of a child by pushing him into a pond within a specified period. The commission directed the Education and Local Self-Government departments to address infrastructure issues in schools. It also raised concerns over safety lapses and poor conditions at some anganwadis. Commission member P.
Shajesh Bhaskar said district authorities and officials should pay greater attention to child rights issues. Of the 61 complaints considered at the sitting, 41 were disposed of and 20 were kept pending for further examination and action.
