Mysuru: Centre hikes disaster relief for FCV tobacco growers to ₹75,000

FCV (Flue-Cured Virginia) tobacco growers affected by natural calamities will receive enhanced financial assistance after the Union government increased the grant and interest-free loan provided through the Tobacco Board. Acting on representations made by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the Tobacco Board has raised the grant and interest-free loan assistance from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000. Financial assistance under other categories has also been enhanced in accordance with revised guidelines, according to a statement from the MP’s office.
Wadiyar had urged the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Tobacco Board to increase financial assistance for growers who suffered crop losses due to natural calamities. The revised package is intended to provide timely financial relief and help farmers restore their livelihoods. Welcoming the decision, Mr. Wadiyar thanked the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Tobacco Board for responding positively to the demand.
He said the enhanced assistance would provide much-needed financial support to affected tobacco growers. The MP also urged the Centre to ensure a fair and remunerative support price for tobacco growers in Karnataka. He said he had written to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal seeking parity with the support extended to tobacco growers in Andhra Pradesh and requesting a just and remunerative support price for Karnataka’s growers.
Wadiyar appealed to all eligible FCV tobacco growers in Mysuru and Kodagu districts to approach Tobacco Board offices and avail themselves of the benefits under the revised scheme. He reiterated his commitment to pursuing measures that safeguard the interests and livelihoods of farmers.
