Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur court has sentenced six people to life imprisonment in connection with a double murder case that derived from a love affair and a subsequent act of revenge. The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Neha Anand after examining the investigation and evidence presented during the trial. According to government counsel Vinod Shukla, the incident took place on June 8, 2022, in Dahar village under Jalalabad police station limits. The case revolved around a love affair between Mamta, the estranged wife of Ompal Kashyap, and Raman Pal Yadav.
Read Full Story Shukla said Mamta had left Ompal and moved to Delhi with Raman Pal for work. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the couple returned to their native village, a development that allegedly angered Ompal. On the evening of June 8, Raman Pal was working in a field when Ompal, along with his sons Sonu and Amit and an associate identified as Pramod, allegedly attacked him with an axe and sticks, killing him on the spot. WOMAN MURDERED AFTER LOVER WAS KILLED Soon after learning about Raman Pal's murder, his brothers, Sarvesh and Ajay, rushed to the field.
According to the prosecution, they then strangled Mamta with her dupatta to avenge their brother's killing. However, instead of admitting their role, they allegedly accused Ompal and his sons of carrying out both murders. Sarvesh subsequently lodged a police complaint alleging that Ompal and his sons were responsible for the deaths of both Raman Pal and Mamta. During the investigation, however, police found evidence indicating that Sarvesh and Ajay themselves had murdered Mamta. The findings were supported by evidence presented before the court during the trial. Based on the evidence, the court convicted six accused and sentenced all of them to life imprisonment.
Four members of Ompal's side were also fined Rs 25,000 each, while Sarvesh and Ajay were fined Rs 55,000 each. Government counsel Vinod Shukla said the judgment would send a strong message to society that those committing serious crimes would be punished in accordance with the law.
