The Darsi police on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) arrested a woman for allegedly committing a theft and recovered gold jewellery weighing 128 grams, valued at ₹16 lakh. According to the police, Chennamshetti Sumalatha of Putta Bazaar lost a handbag containing gold jewellery, kept inside a bag of clothes, while travelling by bus from her parents’ home to her in-laws’ house in Darsi via Tripuranthakam on October 3, 2025.
Based on her complaint, Darsi Circle Inspector (CI) Y. Rama Rao took up the investigation. Acting under the orders of Prakasam District SP V. Harshavardhan Raju and the supervision of Darsi DSP P. Balamuralikrishna, the CI solved old, pending theft cases, arrested the woman and recovered the jewellery.
She will be produced before the Darsi court. Satupati Kumari, wife of Brahmayya and a resident of Sai Nagar, was arrested near Samskruthi School on Addanki Road. On questioning, she confessed to the theft. The police said several theft cases had been registered against her in the past.
The SP commended the CI and his team for their efforts in solving the case.
