Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota has asked officials to speed up relief and restoration work after reviewing the flood situation in the state, where 11 districts have been hit, more than 6.53 lakh people affected and 10 people killed in a day. The review gave special attention to the flood-hit districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat, along with the preparedness of different departments to deal with the situation, according to an official release issued on Wednesday evening.

According to the release, the chief secretary reviewed the ongoing response and asked departments to maintain relief operations without disruption. “He directed all line departments concerned to expedite repair and restoration works in flood-affected areas, while ensuring uninterrupted distribution of relief materials and essential services in relief camps and affected localities,” it said. Kota stressed the need for close coordination between departments and a quick response to reduce difficulties faced by people affected by the floods.
He also urged central agencies such as the Disaster Response Force, the Indian Army and the Air Force to step up assistance to ensure the swift restoration of essential services. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority said 10 people died in the deluge in the 24 hours since Tuesday midnight. With this, the death toll in this year’s floods has risen to 41. Its daily flood report said more than 6,53,100 people have been affected in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong and Nagaon districts.
With the weather department forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain at isolated places over the next four days, the state administration has moved to speed up repairs, keep relief supplies flowing and strengthen coordination as flooding continues across Assam. Ends
