According to an exclusive internal assessment accessed by CNN-News18, the Army carried out a scan of the online information ecosystem after multiple videos surfaced on social media purportedly showing Army personnel criticising the Government of India and expressing solidarity with protesters. The Army’s preliminary assessment identified a total of 24 such posts featuring individuals in Army dress. Officials said that after verification, three individuals have been confirmed to be serving Army personnel, while one has been identified as an e serviceman (ESM).
Sources said disciplinary proceedings have already been initiated against the three serving personnel in accordance with military regulations. However, officials stressed that these constitute only a handful of genuine cases and should not be viewed as representative of the Indian Army. The remaining videos remain under investigation. According to the assessment, most of the individuals appearing in these posts are difficult to identify because the footage lacks distinguishable features, name tags or other identifying markers that would help establish their identity. “We are trying to identify them using all available means," sources familiar with the exercise said. Officials said many of the videos currently circulating on social media appear to contain fake or misleading voice-overs, creating the impression that uniformed personnel are making political statements or endorsing the protests.
