The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Thursday announced the closure of 16 key Metro stations from 7:30 am till further instructions amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital over the CJP protests during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. In a service update, the DMRC said, “Below mentioned Metro stations will be closed from 07:30 AM till further instructions. However, Interchange facility shall remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat." The stations that have been shut are Lok Kalyan Marg Rajiv Chowk Patel Chowk Ramakrishna Ashram Marg Barakhambha Road Supreme Court Seva Teerth Janpath Mandi House Central Secretariat ITO Delhi Gate Indraprastha Khan Market Jor Bagh Shivaji Stadium Despite the closures, passengers will continue to be able to use interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat, the DMRC said.

The affected stations are located in central Delhi, close to Parliament, Jantar Mantar and other high-security zones, where security has been tightened in view of the CJP’s protest call. On Wednesday as well, the DMRC had temporarily closed the same 16 stations as a precautionary measure while allowing interchange facilities at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat. The CJP has been spearheading demonstrations demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with activist Sonam Wangchuk joining the agitation through an indefinite hunger strike in late June. Why Are Protests Happening In Delhi? The protests were triggered by allegations of irregularities in the examination and recruitment systems, with students demanding greater accountability and reforms in the education sector. Protesters are also seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak row.
