Citing US officials, the report said Rubio does not intend to use his legal authority to block the extradition. A senior US State Department official also told Axios that Rubio has not spoken to the Tate brothers or their lawyers and that the department has “no plans to act on this matter at this time." The outlet further reported that Rubio has no intention of using his legal authority to block the extradition, even though the department says he has the sole discretion to do so if he believes the brothers are being politically persecuted.
Trump ‘wants nothing to do’ with Tate brothers Another US official familiar with Rubio’s thinking told Axios, “Marco thinks these guys are scum." The official added that while Trump could overrule Rubio, such a move was unlikely, noting that the US president “wants nothing to do" with the Tate brothers. A former Trump campaign adviser further claimed the brothers were not part of Trump’s 2024 election strategy despite their public support. “The Tates want to pretend they were responsible for the president’s victory [in 2024], but they weren’t part of our strategy and the president doesn’t know them," the adviser said.
