The Chenab River has breached the 32-foot alert mark in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor sector after four days of heavy rainfall and is nearing the 35-foot danger mark. Swollen waters have crossed the riverbanks at several places, entered temples near Jia Pota Ghat and reached the walls of nearby houses.
The administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police and disaster response personnel are monitoring vulnerable areas, evacuating people and advising residents to avoid rivers and other water bodies.
