In the interview, Senior Advocate and former Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising discussed the Supreme Court's refusal to entertain a plea concerning alleged police action against protesters. She said, "Sometimes you have a duty to protest," and argued that courts must examine documented claims of police brutality and mass violations of fundamental rights. Jaising distinguished between poorly prepared petitions and well-drafted petitions while citing Article 32 and the courts' suo motu powers.
She said police manuals restrict blows above the waist because strikes to the head can damage vital organs and cause lasting incapacity. She also questioned the use of suo motu jurisdiction, referred to public interest litigation procedures, and said the legal profession had not stood up to attacks on the Constitution. She welcomed petitions filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association and Delhi High Court Bar Association.
