Tamil Nadu's anti-NEET campaign has returned to the political centre stage, nine years after a 17-year-old student's suicide became a defining moment in the movement
Tamil Nadu's anti-NEET campaign has returned to the political centre stage, nine years after a 17-year-old student's suicide became a defining moment in the movement. Ruling TVK has demanded complete abolition of the medical entrance examination and the transfer of education from the Concurrent List to the State List.
The DMK has also backed student protests and called abolition the permanent solution. A Tamil rapper and student and youth activists were detained during demonstrations. Protesters also blackened Hindi lettering on a Madurai railway station signboard. The bulletin says all major parties in the state, except the BJP, support abolishing NEET.
