Tension prevailed in front of the camp office of the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay in Karimnagar on Wednesday when a group of Congress cadres staged a protest over the alleged detention of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a demonstration in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The Congress workers raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and staged a sit-in, prompting BJP cadres to raise counter-slogans. A war of words ensued, leading to a brief commotion. Police intervened and dispersed the Congress cadres. A posse of police personnel was deployed at Mr. Sanjay’s camp office as a precautionary measure.
Mr. Sanjay is currently attending the Parliament session in New Delhi. Earlier, Congress cadres staged a dharna at Mahatma Gandhi statue in Karimnagar to protest the alleged detention of Mr. Rahul Gandhi in the national capital on Tuesday. TPCC SC Cell Chairman and Manakondur MLA Dr. Kavvampally Satyanarayana, Karimnagar District Congress Committee president and Choppadandi MLA Medipalli Satyam, the party in-charge for Karimnagar Assembly constituency Velchala Rajender Rao and others addressed the dharna.
The Congress leaders condemned the police action against protesting students in New Delhi and demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue.
