Sonam Wangchuk says he is willing to end his indefinite fast if the government assures that young people who joined the July 20 protest will not face punitive legal action. His letter also seeks compensation for families of students who died by suicide following the examination paper leak, a parliamentary discussion on accountability and consideration of the Union Education Minister's resignation.
He says 65 members of Parliament across political parties have urged him to end the fast. The bulletin examines the distinction between demanding the minister's resignation and seeking its consideration. It also discusses communication between the government and protest representatives, opposition demands for the minister's removal, education sector reforms and possible legal proceedings linked to the Chalo Sansad march.
The fast will continue indefinitely if the requested assurance on protesters is not provided.
