This has taken the total number of houses damaged in the valley to 18 after six houses were washed away in a downpour on Tuesday. The weather department has warned of a low to moderate flash flood risk in parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur and Kullu districts over the next 24 hours. It has also issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Kangra and Mandi, and a yellow alert for heavy rain in parts of Chamba, Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur on Wednesday.

Landslides were also reported in the Dibba and Maned Nallah areas, making it difficult for rescue teams and administrative personnel to reach the affected locations. In all, 13 pucca houses and five kutcha houses have been damaged in the rain, and nine cowsheds have also been damaged. Officials said three buffaloes, four cows, one bull and one sheep died.
Residents heard a loud blast-like sound from the hills moments before a strong rush of water, mud and boulders came downhill. Officials believe timely evacuation helped prevent any loss of life. Moderate to heavy rain lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh. Mashobra in Shimla district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 117.5 mm since Tuesday evening, followed by Naina Devi at 106.4 mm, Nangal Dam at 90 mm, Brahmani at 77 mm, Kufri at 74.2 mm and Shimla at 66.5 mm. The wet spell is likely to continue till July 27.
Several roads in the state have been blocked due to torrential rain over the past few days. Authorities have asked people to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers, streams, nallahs and landslide-prone slopes, and not try to cross overflowing bridges or flooded roads as rain and flash flood risk continue in many districts.
