(PTI image for representation) CJP Protest: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday called for a massive ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest where thousands of protesters marched towards Parliament demanding Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. The protest witnessed clashes, tear gas shelling, allegations of excessive force by police, counter-allegations of violence by protesters, detentions, and widespread disruption across central Delhi. Eyewitnesses have recounted scenes of violence during the protest march, alleging that protesters pelted stones, damaged property and targeted police personnel deployed in the area. While speaking exclusively to CNN-News18, a taxi driver who was stationed near Janpath during the protest said that a large crowd had gathered and that several properties were damaged in the ensuing clashes. According to him, stones were thrown from the protesters’ side, injuring Delhi Police personnel. He said the police could not be expected to remain passive while being attacked and recalled moving his taxi away from the area out of fear that it would be damaged during the violence.

A team of CNN-News18 also visited a fuel station near Janpath and found visible signs of damage days after the clashes. The station’s glass façade was shattered, with broken glass strewn across the premises. The petrol station manager, Dinesh, told CNN-News18 that one of the fuel dispensing machines was damaged after being struck by stones. He said police personnel were running in one direction while protesters chased them, and the petrol station became caught in the middle of the confrontation. “Delhi Police personnel were running towards one side while protesters were chasing them. During the confrontation, the petrol station came in the middle of the violence and was damaged due to the stone pelting," he said. Earlier on Tuesday, a Delhi Police sub-inspector injured in violence claimed that protesters deliberately targeted uniformed personnel, pelted stones and physically assaulted police officers deployed at the site. While speaking excluisvely to CNN-NEWS18, the injured Sub-Inspector, Srinivas Sharma said that he was on law and order duty with the New Delhi district police and was deployed as part of the security team accompanying the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). According to Sharma, the DCP was trying to persuade protesters to remain peaceful when a section of the crowd turned violent. “They raised slogans of ‘Police waalo ko pakdo aur maaro’ before attacking me," Sharma alleged, claiming that protesters pelted stones at police personnel, broke barricades and hurled them at officers.
