The information stemmed from Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai’s written reply, placed before the Lok Sabha on July 21, that sought to answer a query raised by BJP MP Janardan Singh.

Singh, a legislator from Bihar’s Maharajganj, had asked the Centre what measures were initiated to ensure a second career for soldiers exiting the Agnipath scheme. A 50% Quota Set Aside For Agniveers According to Nityanand Rai, 50 per cent of all Constable (General Duty) and Rifleman vacancies across the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Assam Rifles will now be set aside for former Agniveers as a “matter of policy". No Written Test, A Light Physical Exam E Agniveers will not have to sit for any written exam, or clear the Physical Standards Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) that every other CAPF aspirant has to take. According to the government, in case of an e Agniveer, four years of soldiering stands as a testimony to both fitness and discipline.

The Ministry tells the Lok Sabha that a dedicated E Agniveer wing has been established inside the Ministry of Home Affairs, which has been entrusted with tracking and coordinating with these soldiers regarding where they land after the completion of their term of engagement. A 3-Year Bump On Age Every e Agniveer receives a three-year relaxation in prescribed upper age limit. “3 Years relaxation in prescribed upper age limit. Further, age relaxation of 5 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit will be given to the candidates of the first batch of E Agniveers", according to a statement from the ministry. The Agniveer scheme –– introduced in 2022 –– has often been at the receiving end of criticism. Under the scheme, selected youths (Agniveers) serve a 4-year tenure, including 6 months of intensive training. Critics, including several opposition leaders, have repeatedly questioned the government on what happens to the candidates who will not be retained by the armed forces after four years of tenure.
