(Source: PTI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to grant an urgent hearing on a petition seeking a probe into the alleged police action against student protesters during the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) march in Delhi over the NEET paper leak row. The matter was mentioned before Chief Justice of India () Surya Kant by advocate Narendra Mishra, who sought an urgent listing of the plea alleging police excesses during the protest that demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and reforms in the examination system. Refusing to entertain the request for an urgent hearing, the remarked, “Don’t waste our time, and don’t waste your time." The lawyer argued that the students were raising important issues, including the proper conduct of the NEET examination and reforms in the Testing Agency (NTA).
However, the Bench declined to hear the matter urgently. The petition sought a court-monitored probe into the alleged lathi-charge on students during the CJP-led ‘Sansad Chalo’ march in the national capital, where protesters had gathered to demand accountability over alleged examination paper leaks. The Supreme Court’s refusal comes a day after the Delhi High Court also declined to urgently hear a similar plea related to the police action during the protests. While refusing an immediate hearing, the High Court had observed, “Don’t drag the Court into this." Why Are Protests Happening In Delhi? The protests were triggered by allegations of irregularities in the examination and recruitment systems, with students demanding greater accountability and reforms in the education sector. Protesters are also seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak row.
