Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi recently met NEET UG aspirants who claimed that question papers for the medical entrance examination were being sold through WhatsApp and Telegram groups. After the meeting, Gandhi said students have lost confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and are questioning the authorities over the alleged paper leak issue. Sharing his views on social media, Gandhi wrote, "One thing became absolutely clear during my meeting with NEET students - India's youth no longer trusts Narendra Modi. They told me - question papers are being openly sold on WhatsApp and Telegram. They know the prices at which they're being sold, who's buying them, how the mafia operates - all of this is known to these kids." He further said, "They had just one question - if we know this, why doesn't the government and the institutions?
The truth is, these kids understand better than the government itself how this rotten system can be fixed." Gandhi also criticised reports suggesting that defence forces could be involved in handling NEET re-examination papers. According to reports, the Ministry of Education is considering using defence services for the safe storage and transportation of NEET-UG question papers for the re-test scheduled on June 21. The government is also exploring the use of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to transport the papers securely. Reacting to this possibility, Gandhi said that defence forces should focus on national security rather than helping conduct an entrance examination. Referring to the reported plan, he wrote, "The government is further exploring the possibility of using the Indian Air Force (IAF) for transportation of NEET-UG papers to ensure foolproof conduct of the retest on June 21." He also called for major reforms in the examination system and stated, "Patchwork fixes won't cut it anymore.
The entire examination system will have to be rebuilt from scratch, in collaboration with students, teachers, and experts." He further added, "We can't lose any more children. And we can't leave even one generation's future in the hands of this corrupt system."
