Fresh political tensions have erupted in West Bengal after a second Trinamool Congress Member of Parliament alleged an attack by Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Hooghly. The parliamentarian claimed to have suffered a head injury from a hurled object while heading to protest a similar assault on another senior party parliamentarian the previous day in Sonarpur. Visuals from the scene showed chaotic protests with crowds chanting slogans against the ruling party leader.
In response, the primary opposition party dismissed the injury claims, accusing the ruling party of staging a drama to divert attention from the earlier incident involving rotten eggs and stones. Meanwhile, signs of internal unease are emerging within the ruling state party. A senior leader openly questioned the absence and silence of newly elected legislators and office bearers following the initial attack. The lack of visible support outside the senior parliamentarian's residence has sparked speculation about shifting loyalties and deeper fault lines within the party after the recent assembly elections.
