The Union Minister, in a post on X, said that both the leaders exchanged views on regional, global and multilateral issues of mutual interest. “Pleased to meet @SecRubio of the USA here in Manila. The meeting took place during Jaishankar’s two-day visit to the Philippines, where he attended meetings under the ASEAN framework and participating in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting with counterparts from the United States, Japan and Australia. Addressing the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference with India 2026, Jaishankar said the world is “extremely turbulent" and stressed that no single nation or grouping can deal with emerging global challenges on its own. “The world is extremely turbulent, and it is increasingly evident that no single nation or even grouping can deal with it on its own," he said, calling for deeper cooperation between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
He said that disruptions to global supply chains, along with concerns over energy, food and health security, have highlighted the need for stronger partnerships. Jaishankar also underlined the importance of adherence to international law in ensuring secure maritime trade, noting that 2026 has been designated as the ASEAN-India Year of Maritime Cooperation. The Union Minister said that the India-ASEAN agenda spans trade and investment, mobility and talent, technology, digital innovation, artificial intelligence, sustainability and connectivity, adding that deeper cooperation would help both sides diversify and reduce risks.
