Improved Connectivity Boosts Footfall Officials also attribute the increase in visitors to the Mahalakshmi free bus travel scheme introduced by the Congress government for women, which has made travel to the shrine more accessible. The temple has also grown into one of Telangana’s biggest religious tourism destinations. Focus Shifts To Governance And Devotee Facilities Since taking office, the Revanth Reddy government has focused on improving temple administration and pilgrim facilities.
One of its first decisions was restoring the shrine’s official name from ‘Yadadri’ back to ‘Yadagirigutta’, citing its historical and cultural significance. The government is also expediting the long-pending gold plating of the temple’s Vimana Gopuram, conducting audits of donated gold, and increasing transparency in the project. Authorities have prioritised improving the pilgrim experience by reducing waiting times for free darshan, providing drinking water and shaded queue lines, and reviewing land acquisition, fund utilisation and contract works under the Yadagirigutta Temple Development Authority (YTDA). An 18-member temple board has also been constituted to oversee administration. A Major Spiritual Landmark The temple’s transformation has made it one of the country’s fastest-growing pilgrimage destinations. While the previous government oversaw its large-scale architectural redevelopment, the current administration says its focus is on governance reforms and improving facilities for devotees as Yadagirigutta continues to attract record numbers of pilgrims.
