(Source: PTI) The Centre on Tuesday hit back at the Congress over its attack on the government over the alleged NEET paper leak, accusing Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of playing politics over the issue and asserting that the government is ready for a discussion in Parliament. Addressing a press conference, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad termed the Opposition’s allegations “politically motivated" and said the Congress was disrupting Parliament despite the government’s willingness to debate the matter. ‘Rahul Gandhi Is Irresponsible’ “It was a really shameful day in India’s democracy and democratic history. LoP Rahul Gandhi sat on a protest at the Prime Minister’s residence gate, forcibly and without permission. His father, grandmother and great-grandfather were Prime Ministers. He knows the dignity of the PM residence; still, he showed irresponsible conduct. I condemn it…PM’s security is of utmost importance," Prasad said. Prasad said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already assured strict action against those involved in the alleged paper leak. “The Prime Minister has assured that strict action will be taken against the people behind the leaks," the minister said. Taking a swipe at the Congress, Prasad questioned its criticism of the BJP-led government, asking whether paper leaks had not occurred during previous Congress governments. ‘Politically Motivated’ “Rahul Gandhi is doing only politics over it… Have no paper leaks happened under Congress government?" he said. Calling the Opposition’s campaign politically driven, he added, “All this is politically motivated." Prasad also accused the Opposition of stalling Parliament while demanding a discussion on the issue. “We condemn Rahul Gandhi’s behaviour… We are ready for discussion in Parliament, but they are not letting the House function," the minister said. The BJP leader further said senior ministers have been engaging with students over their concerns. “Ministers Jitendra Singh, JP Nadda met students, activist Sonam Wangchuk and held discussions with them," he added. PM Calls NEET Paper Leaks ‘Ghor Paap’ The BJP leader’s remarks came hours after PM Modi, in his first public comments on the controversy, described paper leaks as a “grave sin" and said those responsible had faced stringent action. Addressing NDA MPs at the alliance’s Parliamentary Party meeting, Modi said the Centre acted immediately after reports of irregularities surfaced, leading to the arrest of 13 people. He said the re-test was conducted without delay. The PM also noted that the government had engaged dhurandhar (top) lawyers to ensure strict punishment for those involved in the paper leak, PTI sources said.
