Union Ministers JP Nadda, Jitendra Singh Meet Sonam Wangchuk At Medanta Hospital Published By, Last Updated: July 22, 2026, 01:09 IST Wangchuk was discharged from the Safdarjung Hospital earlier in the evening and was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh on Tuesday met activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, sources said. Wangchuk was shifted to Medanta Hospital from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi earlier in the evening for further treatment, following a Delhi High Court order. A source told PTI that the two Union ministers met Wangchuk at the hospital. He was brought to Medanta in an ambulance at around 7:30 pm under tight security and has been admitted to ICU 8. A Medanta Hospital official said Wangchuk’s treatment has started under the supervision of Dr Sushila Kataria, an internal medicine specialist.
Wangchuk Shifted After High Court Order The Delhi High Court had earlier directed that Wangchuk be shifted immediately from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where a team of doctors with the required expertise would monitor his condition. Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk was discharged at 6:40 pm and handed over to the Medanta medical team for further care in compliance with the court order. “At the time of discharge, his vital parameters were stable. However, pancytopenia persists, and his serum potassium level was 3.4 mEq/L," the hospital said in a statement. The hospital also said all relevant medical records, investigation reports and treatment documents were provided to the receiving medical team to ensure continuity of care. Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite fast since June 28 over alleged examination irregularities, was earlier receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. Following the court order, security was increased around Medanta Hospital, with a heavy police deployment in the area.
The High Court order came after Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali Angmo, approached the court seeking his transfer from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta. The court said shifting him to a hospital of his choice would protect his fundamental rights under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution.
