Of the 26 infected people, 10 are being treated in hospitals and nine are in home isolation. Three patients have recovered and been discharged, while four have died. In a press release, the Health Department said, "Seven new Covid-19 cases were reported in the state on Tuesday, taking the total number of infections to 26. The cases were detected in different districts and are not part of any cluster outbreak." Kadapa has reported the highest number of cases at eight, followed by Guntur with six, East Godavari with three, and Kakinada and Bapatla with two each. One case each has also been reported from Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, NTR and Parvathipuram Manyam districts.
The Health Department said all four deceased patients had pre-existing health conditions before they were diagnosed with the infection. It reiterated that the cases reported so far are sporadic and spread across different districts, with no evidence of a cluster outbreak in any part of the state. According to the World Health Organisation, Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Most people infected with the virus develop mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without special treatment, though some may develop severe illness and need medical attention.
The WHO said older adults and people with underlying medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease or cancer are at higher risk of developing severe illness.
