The BJP on Tuesday called the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) a “proxy” of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), after AAP leaders criticised the Congress protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence and linked it to the ongoing student agitation over the NEET issue at Jantar Mantar. The exchange began after AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that Prime Minister Modi got Rahul Gandhi to stage the Congress protest outside his residence to weaken the student protest. Earlier in the day, the Aam Aadmi Party, which has been openly backing the ongoing CJP protest, took a dig at the Congress’ dharna outside the prime minister’s residence, calling it a “jugalbandi” with the BJP government and accusing Rahul Gandhi of weakening the agitation.

Senior AAP leader and former Delhi chief minister Atishi also questioned how Rahul Gandhi was allowed to stage a protest outside the prime minister’s residence while the Modi government has refused to talk to CJP supporters despite their month-long protest. Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj attacked the Congress, alleging that its top leaders remain silent on the ongoing movement while its social media handles and influencers have been trying to weaken the CJP protest from the beginning. The row saw the BJP and AAP trade charges over the Congress protest and the student agitation, with the BJP accusing AAP of using the CJP protest as a political front and AAP alleging that the Congress protest was aimed at weakening the month-long movement.
