Speaking about the impact of the US strikes, Trump said only Iran knows the full extent of the destruction. “Now, nobody knows except the Iranians the damage that we’ve done to them," he said. Trump claimed the military action had severely weakened Iran. “We have done damage that will take them 20, 25 years to recover from." He added that even if the United States withdrew immediately, it would still have achieved a major objective. “If we left tomorrow, we had a big success, but we’re not leaving tomorrow." Repeating the message, Trump said, “If we left right now, it would take Iran 20 to 25 years to rebuild. We’re not finished at all. We are not leaving right now." He claimed Iran was eager to restart dialogue with Washington. “The Iranians are desperate to meet with us, but until they’re ready to do significant things, we’re not interested in meeting with them," Trump said. The remarks signalled that the US intends to maintain pressure on Iran despite claims that Tehran wants diplomatic engagement. Trump clashes with reporter over Iran During the interaction at White House, Trump dismissed questions that Iran had shown no willingness to stop fighting. A reporter asked, “Mr. President, there are no signs that Iran is ready to stop fighting. So what is the plan? Is the plan to just keep bombing until they give up?" Trump rejected the premise of the question. “How would you know? How would you know if there are no signs? Why do you know something that I don’t know?" he responded. He argued that discussions were taking place away from public view. “You don’t know what dialogue is taking place behind the scenes. They want to meet desperately to try and end it because they’re getting decimated." Trump also criticised the reporter’s news organisation, saying, “You don’t get that when you listen to your fake station, but you don’t know. You don’t know anything."
