Regional mediators are pushing to de-escalate tensions and revive an interim ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, as Iran's interior minister holds high-level talks with officials in Pakistan. The diplomatic efforts come after the US launched more attacks on Iran, with explosions reported in multiple areas including the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik.
President Donald Trump has warned Iran will "pay" for the killing of at least three American soldiers. Iran has responded by conducting strikes against regional countries, with missile interceptions reported in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan. Kuwait says several power and water desalination plants were attacked. The US has continued targeting Iranian civilian and commercial infrastructure, particularly ports regarded as Iran's economic lifelines, in an effort to degrade IRGC capacity and cripple the Iranian economy.
The IRGC has warned that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed as long as US aggression continues, with Iran insisting it will assert control over the strategic waterway. In the Gulf, Qatar has submitted a formal complaint to the UN, condemning Iranian attacks on Qatari targets and affirming its right to self-defense.
