The incident took place on Monday evening, and the injured man, identified as Kartik, was taken to hospital. Read Full Story Residents said the accident happened at around 7.15 pm when children from the society were playing on the basketball court. Two players managed to move away, but Kartik, the son of a doctor, was hit by the falling iron pole. People present at the spot, along with security guards, rushed over after hearing screams and pulled him out from under the pole before he was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is being treated in the emergency ward. According to residents, the iron pole had been rusted for a long time and was in a badly damaged condition.
They alleged that it had not been properly fixed into the ground with concrete and had been leaning to one side. Residents said they had repeatedly complained to the society management about the condition of the pole, but no action was taken. Residents also said this was the third such incident in Haryana. Earlier, a national-level player, Hardik, died in Rohtak after a 750-kg basketball pole fell on him, while another player also died in a similar incident in Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district. A complaint has been lodged with the local police, and Kartik's family and society members have sought registration of an FIR and strict legal action against the management and maintenance team.
Police said the matter was under investigation. The incident has again raised concerns among residents over the condition and upkeep of sports infrastructure in residential societies. Ends With inputs from agencies
