Tripathi. Taking charge at a time of evolving maritime security challenges, he pledged to maintain the Indian Navy’s operational edge and continue its modernisation drive. Calling it the greatest honour of his life to lead the force, Admiral Swaminathan said the Navy remains alert and prepared to safeguard India’s interests in an increasingly complex and unpredictable security environment. Operational Readiness Top Priority The new Navy chief said ensuring the highest levels of operational preparedness and combat effectiveness would remain his foremost priority.
“The Indian Navy stands vigilant to protect national interests wherever they are and is actively deployed in a regional security environment that remains challenging, complex, unpredictable and uncertain," he said. He added that the Navy must remain fully prepared to protect India’s security and economic interests under all circumstances. Focus On Modernisation And New Technologies Admiral Swaminathan said the Navy is already progressing on a strong path of capability enhancement and force modernisation. He stressed that his focus would be on sustaining this momentum, advancing ongoing programmes and integrating emerging technologies to strengthen operational capabilities. He also reiterated the Navy’s commitment to jointness among the armed forces, self-reliance and indigenous defence production. “The Indian Navy is deeply committed to jointness, Aatmanirbharta and indigenisation, and these will remain key thrust areas," he said. Welfare Of Personnel A Key Focus Highlighting the role of human resources in the force’s success, Admiral Swaminathan said the welfare, well-being and professional development of officers, sailors and civilian staff would remain among his key priorities.
Tribute To Outgoing Navy Chief Paying tribute to Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the new Navy chief described his predecessor’s tenure as highly effective and thanked him for his leadership and guidance. Handing over command, Admiral Tripathi expressed confidence in his successor and said he was leaving office with a sense of satisfaction. “I hand over the baton of the Indian Navy to Admiral Swaminathan with satisfaction, knowing that he is a thorough professional and an outstanding leader. I have no doubt that he will take our Navy to greater heights," he said. Thanking officers, sailors and defence civilians for their service, Admiral Tripathi said the Navy had consistently lived up to the nation’s expectations. Takes Charge Amid Major Expansion Plans Admiral Swaminathan assumes leadership at a time when the Navy is pursuing several major capability enhancement programmes, including the induction of indigenous warships, submarines and advanced aviation platforms. The service has also expanded its operational presence across the Indian Ocean Region and beyond, playing a key role in maritime security, protection of sea lanes and regional humanitarian missions.
A veteran officer with extensive operational and staff experience, Admiral Swaminathan previously served as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and headed the Western Naval Command.
