Top opposition leaders were detained following a surprise protest outside the residence of the Prime Minister in the national capital. Government sources described the demonstration as a grave security threat and an unprecedented breach. The protest, which included the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and two state chief ministers, centered on the recent medical entrance exam paper leak.
Demonstrators demanded the immediate resignation of the Education Minister, a parliamentary discussion, a time-bound investigation, and a statement from the Home Minister. A Minister of State interacted with the protesting leaders, reportedly agreeing to a parliamentary discussion, but the opposition refused to withdraw without the resignation of the Education Minister. During the detention process, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha reportedly sustained a minor injury.
Detained politicians were subsequently transported to various police stations across the city as security personnel completely sanitized the area outside the residence of the Prime Minister.
