Opposition leaders faced detention outside the residence of the Prime Minister during a protest regarding the medical entrance exam controversy. The politicians demanded a Parliament discussion and the resignation of the Education Minister. Police personnel cleared the area after negotiations failed. Government representatives stated the opposition changed their demands from a discussion to a resignation. Opposition members maintained the resignation demand persisted for two months alongside student protests at Jantar Mantar.
Government party members criticized the demonstration as a security risk and a disruption of Parliament proceedings. The situation escalated during a march to Parliament, resulting in clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement. Protesters engaged in stone-pelting, and police responded with lathi charges and tear gas. Government records report injuries to over one hundred police personnel and protesters. An e police officer noted the march lacked authorization. The events highlight the deadlock concerning the education sector crisis and unrest among youth.
