Document writers across the State staged protest at several places on Tuesday, despite Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s clarification regarding the alleged privatisation of citizen-related services in the Registration department. In Kadapa district, document writers sat in protest at the Sub Registrar’s office located near old bus stand in Proddatur, announcing that they would not extend their services until the end of the month. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) State spokesperson and former MLA Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy reached the spot, sat alongside the agitating document writers, and extended solidarity on behalf of his party to their cause.
He flayed the State government for allegedly privatising every available service, seeking to benefit TDP cadre and leaders. “The controversial G.O. No. 396 issued by the government threatens the survival of the five lakh document writers in the State. The proposed front office and back office systems is a clandestine attempt to vest key administrative responsibilities with the corporate detector owing allegiance to the ruling dispensation,“ the YSRCP leader alleged.
Sivaprasad Reddy also expressed concern about the likelihood of the public data being compromised when it is in the hands of private individuals. Land grab incidents, fraudulent real estate transactions, and fake registrations may go up in such cases, he alleged, claiming that this scenario could also lead to creation of discrepancies
between market value and guideline value to suit the interests of a few. Sivaprasad Reddy claimed that the ongoing Statewide ‘pen-down’ strike by document writers had caused daily registration revenues to plummet from ₹50-₹60 crore to a paltry ₹4 crore, bleeding the State exchequer to the tune of ₹50 crore a day.
