Elderly missing woman found dead in suitcase in lake; murder probe launched
A 61-year-old woman who was reported missing from Kengeri last week was found dead, her body stuffed inside a suitcase and dumped in Ramohalli Lake
A 61-year-old woman who was reported missing from Kengeri last week was found dead, her body stuffed inside a suitcase and dumped in Ramohalli Lake, prompting the Kumbalagodu police to register a murder case and launch an investigation. The deceased has been identified as Jayamma, a resident of Kengeri. The police said her family identified the body after it was recovered from the lake on Tuesday.
According to the missing person FIR, Jayamma left her home around 3.35 p.m. on July 15 but did not return. Her son, Jaikumar, 42, filed a complaint at the Kumbalagodu Police Station on July 16, stating that the family had searched for her at relatives’ houses, among friends, and in the neighbourhood, but could not trace her.
Her mobile phone was found switched off. The complaint said she was wearing a cream-coloured saree, a mangalsutra, earrings, and a ring when she left home. On Tuesday, the police recovered a suitcase containing the woman's body from Ramohalli Lake. Following identification by her family, investigators suspect that Jayamma was murdered elsewhere before her body was packed into the suitcase and dumped in the lake to conceal the crime.
The Kumbalagodu police have launched a murder investigation and are examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and other leads to identify and arrest those responsible. Further investigation is on.
