A 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, forced to consume alcohol, and raped by an autorickshaw driver in an under-construction building in Devanahalli on Monday. The police, based on a complaint, arrested the accused, including a woman, for abetting the crime. According to the police, the victim was allegedly lured by her neighbour, identified as Renuka, on the night of July 17 on the pretext of visiting a temple. According to Devanahalli police, the accused, Naveen, could not reach the girl directly, so they sought Renuka’s help to lure her.
Naveen was accompanied by his friend Venkataramana. On the way back, the trio took her in an auto-rickshaw to an undisclosed location, where they allegedly forced her to consume alcohol. The police said the accused then threatened her, warning that her father would realise she was intoxicated. Taking advantage of her state, they allegedly took her to an under-construction building, where Naveen sexually assaulted her. The next morning, the accused allegedly dropped the girl near her residence and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident.
The girl’s mother, concerned after her daughter’s absence, questioned her on return. The victim disclosed the assault and accompanied her mother to the local police station. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and gang-rape provisions. All three accused were traced and taken into custody. Further investigations are ongoing, and the police said forensic and medical examinations have been sought as part of the probe.
The police have also seized the autorickshaw used by the accused for the crime. The probe revealed that Venkataramana had already been booked in a POCSO case earlier at Bagepalli Police Station.
