Director General of Police C.V. Anand on Tuesday reviewed a wide range of policing and administrative reforms during a Staff Officers’ Meeting, with discussions focusing on security deployment, technology upgrades, traffic management and the modernisation of the police force. Among the key issues reviewed was the implementation of the Security Review Committee (SRC) report, including the withdrawal of superfluous security deployments made in the name of Maoist threats.
Police said the exercise is expected to free nearly 400 personnel and a fleet of bulletproof vehicles for deployment elsewhere. The meeting also discussed a Statewide audit of police manpower and vehicles and the methodology for its implementation, as well as the proposal to operate the Greyhounds and OCTOPUS units from a single campus in view of the current security scenario. Officials reviewed the finalisation of the Telangana Police Manual and its accompanying compendiums.
The DGP also discussed proposed changes to the IPS ceremonial uniform, including the relevance of cross belts and batons in present-day policing. Other issues taken up included the welfare of Telangana Special Police personnel, the proposed creation of dedicated enforcement wings for vigilance, food adulteration and drug control, and the establishment of a Traffic and Road Safety Bureau. The meeting also reviewed plans to revamp the Technology and Computer Services Wing into a modern unit equipped to handle emerging technologies, along with the progress of CCTNS 3.0, TGCOP 3.0 and Hawk Eye 3.0.
The DGP said the suggestions and views expressed during the meeting would be taken into consideration while finalising the department’s policies.
