All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary and SIR in charge for Kittur Karnataka region Anjali Nimbalkar has alleged that BJP was trying to get the names of pro-Congress voters deleted from the electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, Ms. Nimbalkar said that the pro-Congress voters were being targeted in the SIR process, and they strongly suspected that the names of minorities, SC/ST and OBC voters were being removed in the Hubballi-Dharwad East and Central Assembly segments. “We have taken the issue seriously,” she said. Across India, the pro-Congress voters were being targeted and they had seen it happen in West Bengal where 91 lakh voters were deleted from the electoral rolls.
Similarly in Uttar Pradesh, 2.04 crore voters were deleted followed by 74 lakhs in Tamil Nadu, 68 lakhs in Gujarat, 47 lakhs in Bihar and 31 lakh voters in Rajasthan, she said. As they had doubts about minorities, SC/ST and OBC voters being removed from electoral rolls in the Hubballi-Dharwad East and Central Assembly constituencies, they had issued strict directions to party workers and booth level agents to conduct thorough verification of the SIR process in their respective booths. Already the party workers were helping the voters in getting their names verified in association with Booth Level Officers-2 appointed by the party, she said. Nimbalkar said that it was also the responsibility of the general public to ensure that their names figured in the voters list and in case of missing names immediately it should be brought to the notice of officials concerned to take remedial measures by producing requisite documents.
Those not having their names in the electoral rolls of 2020 and 2025, they should fill in enumeration form no. 6 and submit the same before August 8 either to the tahsildar or the Deputy Commissioner, she said. The general public should note that it would help them in getting benefits under the guarantee schemes. They should also be cautious about the likelihood of the Union government using the SIR process to question their citizenship, she added. Police action condemned Nimbalkar lambasted the Union government for the police brutalities on the protesting students at the Jantar Mantar who wanted to march to Parliament on the NEET issue. No parent would approve of such action against students protesting peacefully, she said.
Under the nose of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, so far 152 instances of question paper leak had happened. Inspite of this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was silent on the issue and had retained him in the Cabinet. The incompetent Minister should be immediately dropped from the Cabinet, she demanded. She also announced that the NSUI units would be organising State-wide protests on the issue of lathi-charge on the students in Delhi.
