Congress MPs and party workers marched from 10 Rajaji Marg towards the Prime Minister’s residence at Lok Kalyan Marg after gathering at the Congress president’s home for his birthday. Parliamentary leaders from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha joined the demonstration, with protesters raising slogans and blocking a crossroads near the residence. The party said the march was organised to protest Delhi Police action against students and young demonstrators the previous day.
A Congress leader alleged that students had been brutally attacked, that many were in hospital, and that the Prime Minister and Home Minister had not responded. Police personnel were seen attempting to disperse the gathering and remove Congress workers and MPs from the site. The bulletin showed opposition leaders remaining on the road as police moved in, while correspondents described the protest as an escalation of the party’s campaign over the alleged police action.
