Lokayukta police on Tuesday raided several properties linked to a superintendent engineer of a state-run power distribution company in multiple cities in Madhya Pradesh and said they had found assets and spending allegedly disproportionate to his known income. Officials said simultaneous searches at nine locations in Indore, Dhar and Morena uncovered properties, business offices and industrial units linked to Shivram Semil, a superintendent engineer with the Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company, and his close relatives. After a probe, a case was registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Sahay said the multi-city raids conducted earlier in the day found that Semil owned a three-storey house in Indore valued at Rs 1.2 crore. He said searches also revealed several business offices in Indore, a plot of land, an electric car and a two-storey house in Morena. According to the officer, industrial units, plots of land and under-construction factories linked to transformer manufacturing and electrical equipment were found in the names of Semil's son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother-in-law and other close relatives in the Pithampur and Ujjaini industrial areas of Dhar district.
He said the investments in these ran into crores of rupees. Sahay said Semil's total income during 33 years of government service was about Rs 2 crore, while preliminary investigation found expenditure of more than Rs 7.16 crore by him and his close relatives. "This expenditure is more than three times the salary income of a superintendent engineer," he said, adding that documents, investments and other assets recovered during the raids were being evaluated, and further investigation was under way.
The raids, officials said, have so far pointed to assets and expenditure far above the income identified during the probe. Ends
