A major landslide has trapped several workers inside an under-construction tunnel in Sikkim’s Namchi district, with a dangerous gas leak reported at the site. Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and assured all possible central assistance for rescue and relief. The Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other central forces have been mobilised.
Rescue operations are underway in challenging conditions as teams work against time to reach those trapped. The incident has once again highlighted the risks of infrastructure projects in the fragile Himalayan region.
