A 70-year-old man was beaten to death by his son with a wooden stick in Gujarat's Dahod district after the accused blamed his elderly parents for the breakdown of his marriage, police said. The accused, Babubhai Pargi, attacked his father, Valabhai Pargi, during an argument over his estranged wife, who had left him around five years ago and never returned. According to the preliminary police investigation, Babubhai, who was married about a decade ago, had developed a severe alcohol addiction and frequently assaulted and quarrelled with his wife while under the influence of liquor.
Unable to bear the abuse, she left the matrimonial home and cut ties with him. Read Full Story Police said Babubhai later began holding his elderly parents responsible for the collapse of his marriage. Whenever he returned to the village from work, he would allegedly abuse and harass them, accusing them of driving his wife away. The latest confrontation reportedly began over the same issue. During the altercation, Babubhai allegedly picked up a heavy wooden stick and struck his 70-year-old father on the back of the head.
The victim sustained critical head injuries and collapsed. Family members rushed Valabhai Pargi to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following the incident, the victim's younger son, Kaljibhai Pargi, lodged a complaint against his brother at Fatehpura police station. Police registered a murder case against Babubhai Pargi under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused, who had initially fled after the attack, has since been arrested and produced before a court.
