Sikkim Tunnel Tragedy: Deaths, Several Trapped As Landslide Triggers Methane Leak| Dramatic Rescue The death toll in the Sikkim tunnel incident has risen to 8 hours after a landslide blocked its entrance on Monday afternoon, confirmed the district administration. Meanwhile, search and rescue operations are currently underway to evacuate the workers trapped inside the under-construction tunnel of the Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited (NHPC) Teesta Stage VI Hydroelectric Project at Samardung in Namchi district's Jholungey.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Singtam District Hospital, STNM Hospital in Gangtok, and Namchi District Hospital. The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) is closely monitoring the search and rescue operations carried out jointly by the Namchi district administration, in coordination with the Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NGPC) officials, Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and fire and emergency services, reported ANI.
