(AFP) Seeking to move past the political storm over the Ram Mandir donation controversy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has switched into election mode in Uttar Pradesh, launching an aggressive organisational campaign aimed at strengthening its booth network well ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. The first major step in that direction will come on July 22, when the party holds booth presidents’ conferences across all assembly constituencies in the state. Although presented as an organisational exercise, the event is being viewed within the BJP as the formal beginning of its Mission 2027 campaign. The renewed focus follows BJP national president Nitin Nabin’s recent visit to Uttar Pradesh, during which he asked party leaders to put the Ram Mandir donation controversy behind them, avoid public blame games and present a united front. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will address booth presidents from Gorakhpur, while deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will participate from Bareilly. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak will attend the programme from Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur. State BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary will join the conference from Sitapur, while the party’s general secretary (organisation) Dharmapal Singh will participate from Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency. In a significant show of organisational unity, former Uttar Pradesh BJP presidents Bhupendra Chaudhary, Swatantra Dev Singh and Ramapati Shastri are also expected to participate, along with senior ministers, including JPS Rathore and AK Sharma. According to sources, all BJP MLAs and MLCs have been directed to attend the programme, underscoring the importance the leadership is attaching to the exercise. Sources told News18 that the BJP is simultaneously compiling a booth-wise database of its nearly 2.5 crore primary members. The objective is to enable direct outreach to every household through booth-level workers, allowing the party to strengthen its organisational machinery months before the assembly polls. The timing of the exercise is significant. Even as the Samajwadi Party and the Congress prepare to intensify their attack over the Ram Mandir donation row, the BJP appears determined to shift the political narrative away from the controversy and back to organisation-building. Early in July, Chaudhary called the Ram Mandir donation theft “very unfortunate" and promised a thorough investigation.
