Delhi Police has registered as many as four FIRs against unidentified persons under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other applicable laws for rioting, assault on public servants, damage to public property, and other offences during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest march on Monday. Of these, one FIR was lodged for flying a drone without permission in the New Delhi district area during the Parliament session. Another was filed for conspiracy to incite violence. Read Full Story Police sources said that efforts are underway to identify those involved in the agitation through CCTV footage, video recordings and other electronic evidence. Investigation into Monday's violence is continuing, and legal action will be taken against those found involved in vandalism, assault on police personnel and damage to public property, a senior police officer said.
Furthermore, more FIRs are likely to be registered. More than 118 Delhi Police personnel and nearly 60 protesters were injured after violent clases broke out between the two sides during the protest at Jantar Mantar. According to police, the protesters turned "unruly, aggressive and violent" despite repeated warnings and lawful directions to disperse. Police said that the demonstrators violated prohibitory orders, pelted stones and other objects at security personnel, attempted to breach police barricades, vandalised police and other government vehicles, and damaged public property. Several women police personnel also sustained injuries during the clashes.
Police said that the injured personnel are undergoing medical treatment, while medico-legal examinations (MLCs) of the remaining injured officers are underway. "Delhi Police remains committed to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. Strict action will be taken against all persons found involved in unlawful and violent activities, in accordance with law," the police said in a statement. Security arrangements have been intensified at the Jantar Mantar site and several other regions in the capital's Central, North, South, South West and South East districts. Multi-layered barricades have been put up at strategic points, vehicle checking has been increased and patrolling has been intensified. Additional personnel have also been deployed around key government buildings, major intersections and areas seen as prone to protests.
