(Representational image) In a horrific incident, a woman allegedly killed her 37-year-old live-in partner, chopped and stuffed his body in a sack, dumped it in the bathroom of their rented flat in Thane’s Kalyan and fled to Kolkata days before sending a voice note to the landlord confessing to the crime. Alarmed by the voice note, the landlord alerted the police. Acting on the information, Manpada police broke open the door of the flat at Neelkanth Society on Malang Road in Kalyan East on Sunday and recovered the decomposed body of 37-year-old Hamidulla Islam.
The body was allegedly chopped into pieces, stuffed inside a gunny bag and concealed in the bathroom. Police suspect the murder took place five to six days earlier. Residents of the housing society had complained of a foul smell emanating from the locked apartment over the past few days but initially believed it was caused by garbage or a drainage issue. According to police, the accused, identified as Hasiba, had been living with the deceased in the rented flat for around one-and-a-half to two months. “We initially thought the foul smell was due to a garbage or drainage issue. None of us imagined a body was lying inside the apartment," a worker employed at the society told Times of India. As per the reports, Hamidulla was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon before his body was dismembered and hidden. Investigators also suspect the accused left a water tap running continuously to hasten decomposition and destroy forensic evidence.
In the voice note sent to landlord Ajay Patil after fleeing, Hasiba allegedly claimed that Hamidulla had brought her from Pune to Kalyan with the intention of selling her to a prostitution racket and later planned to kill her. She claimed she killed him in self-defence after learning of the alleged plan and asked the landlord to perform his last rites. Police said they are verifying the claims made in the voice message. A murder case has been registered, and a team has been dispatched to Kolkata to trace and arrest the accused. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic experts have collected evidence from the flat.
