The daring robbery took place around 4.30 pm on Monday at Lakshmi Jewellers on the busy Irani Road in Dahanu town, an area known for heavy pedestrian and vehicle movement. Quoting preliminary police findings, news agency PTI reported that the three unidentified assailants arrived at the showroom on a motorcycle before entering the premises with their faces covered.
Once inside, they allegedly threatened staff members and customers with guns and other sharp weapons, forcing them to hand over gold ornaments and cash. Authorities said the exact value of the stolen jewellery and cash has not yet been determined. Police said the accused fired multiple gunshots while fleeing, apparently to prevent bystanders from chasing them and to ensure a swift escape from the crowded marketplace. A CCTV video from outside the showroom, which has surfaced on social media platform X, captures the dramatic sequence of events. The footage purportedly shows three masked men entering the jewellery shop armed with weapons before confronting employees and customers. Moments later, the suspects can be seen hurriedly collecting valuables from the showroom counters before rushing out. Soon after the incident was reported, teams from the Dahanu Police Station reached the spot and launched a chase. However, despite the immediate response, the suspects managed to evade capture and escape from the area.
Investigators have since launched a search operation and were examining CCTV footage from the jewellery showroom and nearby roads to identify the accused and trace the route they took after fleeing. Forensic teams were also collecting evidence from the crime scene as part of the investigation. The brazen heist triggered panic among residents, shoppers and business owners in the market area. Police were relying on CCTV footage, forensic evidence and witness statements to identify the accused and recover the stolen property. No arrests had been reported at the time of filing this report, and further investigation was underway.
