Govt Gave No Assurance To CJP On Its Demands, Asked Protesters To End Agitation: Sources Reported By, Edited By Last Updated: July 20, 2026, 22:50 IST Sources said the government gave no assurance or commitment on any of the protesters' demands. Union Minister JP Nadda meets CJP members (Credits X/ Sourav Das) Union minister J P Nadda held two rounds of meetings with Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) representatives Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Monday. However, the government did not give any assurance on the demands raised by the CJP during two rounds of meetings, sources said. According to sources, the first meeting took place at around 11.50 am, during which the CJP representatives outlined their demands. Nadda is learnt to have asked the delegation to submit them in writing. The representatives returned at around 4 pm and submitted a written memorandum.
Sources said the memorandum contained three key demands: compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the NEET paper leak, the resignation of the Union Education Minister and the release of Sonam Wangchuk. Government sources, however, maintained that no assurance or commitment was given on any of the demands. Instead, Nadda requested the delegation to withdraw the protest and cooperate with the administration in restoring normalcy. Sources said the government closely monitored the protests throughout the day. Union Home Minister Amit Shah was personally monitoring the situation and remained in constant touch with senior officials. Police and paramilitary personnel were instructed to avoid the use of force and, if necessary, use only the minimum force required. Government sources also pointed to the scale of the examination process, noting that more than 50 lakh students have appeared for the three major entrance examinations conducted so far — NEET, JEE and CUET.
While around 10 lakh students appeared for the common examination, over 40 lakh candidates took various entrance examinations across the country. According to the government’s assessment, counselling and admission processes have already begun in several cases, and genuine aspirants are currently focused on securing admissions rather than participating in protests. Sources further claimed that an analysis of the NEET results showed that most of the top rankers were first-time candidates, many of whom came from economically weaker and lower middle-class backgrounds. Government sources also said that after the question paper leak came to light, the Centre acted swiftly by conducting a re-examination within a month, declaring the results thereafter, and fixing accountability for those responsible for the lapses.
