Guntur district police on Monday warned of strict legal action against those spreading misinformation and sharing videos that violate the dignity and privacy of a woman reportedly involved in the recent Krishnababu Colony assault incident in Nagarampalem police station limits. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal said police acted promptly after receiving the woman's complaint on July 16.
The complainant approached the police station after obtaining medical treatment for her injuries, following which a case was registered under Sections 331(6), 79, 115(2), 118(1) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The SP said nine accused persons involved in the incident were identified, arrested and produced before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
He added that all legal procedures required in the case had been initiated. As part of departmental action, Nagarampalem Circle Inspector (CI) Satyanarayana has been placed under suspension. Expressing concern over the circulation of videos related to the incident on social media, Mr. Jindal said such acts seriously compromise the woman’s dignity and privacy. Police have registered another case, Crime No. 273/2026, under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, against those responsible for sharing the videos.
The SP cautioned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone spreading false information, making objectionable remarks about the woman or circulating content that harms her dignity through social media or other platforms.
