Police have booked a father, his son and around 20 unidentified people on charges including outraging modesty and attempted abduction after trainee nurses were allegedly attacked inside the Shahjahanpur Government Medical College, officials said on Monday. The FIR was filed late on Sunday night after police looked into complaints made by both sides over the incident, which took place on Friday, Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit said. Read Full Story According to the FIR, the dispute started when relatives of a woman undergoing dialysis, identified as Lata Singh, suspected that a trainee nurse was recording a video of the patient.
"The patient's attendants allegedly assaulted the trainee nurse, pulled her by the hair and also attacked another nurse," Dixit told PTI. He said the FIR also alleged that the patient's relatives later called several other people, who entered the dialysis unit, vandalised the facility and assaulted the nurses. "The accused allegedly attempted to force one of the nurses into a car and also inappropriately touched her private parts," the SP said. Dixit said a case had been registered against a father, his son and about 20 unidentified people under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
He said efforts were on to identify the remaining accused through CCTV footage installed at the medical college. On Sunday evening, the trainee nurses met Shahjahanpur Mayor Archana Verma and alleged that they were receiving threats and were being pressured to withdraw their complaint. Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media purportedly shows one of the trainee nurses alleging that the attackers were linked to a BJP MLA from the Dadraul Assembly constituency. When contacted, Dadraul MLA Arvind Singh declined to comment on the allegation.
The case centres on an altercation in the dialysis unit that later led to allegations of assault, vandalism, attempted abduction and intimidation, with police saying they are identifying the remaining accused and continuing the investigation. Ends With PTI inputs
